Care Homes - Putting You in the Picture

  • Mike - Success Story

I like doing my own shopping. I was never allowed to do this on my own before, now my support worker helps me with the list and I've got to know all the local shopkeepers really well.

Mike has made great progress since coming to Lifestyles and is more independent than ever. We have helped him get to know the area where he lives. He really enjoys going to the local shops and everyone knows him. Whilst Mike lives in one of our small care homes - which he shares with four other people - we are confident he will be living independently in the community in the near future and we are equipping him with the skills necessary to make the transition.

  • Terry - Success Story

I like working with Handycare because it gets me out and about. I meet lots of new people on my rounds and I am always learning new things.

The Handycare Service was established to enable our service users to gain job related skills. It's part of the organisation's repair and maintenance service and they deal with real repair requests. The service users work alongside one of our maintenance technicians - performing DIY-type repairs in our care homes and in our supported housing properties. It's really great to see individuals grow in confidence - simply because they have been given an opportunity to learn new skills and receive the necessary support.
