Plans for new purpose built care accommodation given go-ahead
02 February 2012
A care home with a difference will be created after plans for a
new state of the art care and respite unit in Bucknall,
Stoke-on-Trent, were approved unanimously last week (24th
Jan).
The new development for people with learning disabilities, which
will provide 16 units, was given planning consent on Tuesday. Eight
of the units in the new facility will be residential, with the
remaining eight providing much needed respite care facilities. The
plans include communal facilities, spacious en-suite bedrooms and a
high quality 'hotel' feel.
The site currently houses a disused probation office, which will
now be demolished to make way for the care home, which will provide
much needed facilities for the local community. The new centre will
also contribute to the local economy with the creation of 20
jobs.
The site will be developed and managed by a partnership between The
Wrekin Housing Trust and Choices Housing Association. Choices, who
are celebrating their 21st anniversary this year, are based in
Newcastle-under-Lyme and already provide care and support for over
300 people.
Nigel Downs, Choices Managing Director, said: "The development in
Bucknall will enable us to provide respite facilities for varying
periods of time to suit the needs of individuals and allow families
and carers to have a break, as well as providing permanent five
star standard accommodation and facilities for others."
